From childhood Emmeline Pankhurst began to fight for women's right to vote. Her great personal beauty and magnetism inspired her followers, of both sexes, to join her in the battle - a battle which included violence and led to imprisonment and the horrors of forcible feeding, before success came in the 1914-18 war.
